- Brad Parscale, former campaign manager for President Donald Trump, said Tuesday night he felt he had “paid the price” for telling his boss the truth.
- “I didn’t like lying to her. I like telling her the truth,” Parscale told Fox News host Martha MacCallum. “But a lot of those D-level people hanging around him, they just told him what he wanted to hear.”
- Parscale also said that Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, suffered the same dynamic when Bill Stepien took over as campaign manager.
- “I feel like someone had to be the one telling him the truth. And I think Jared did too,” Parscale told MacCallum. “I think we both paid the price sometimes.”
- Parscale also noted that Trump had never told him why he was demoted to senior adviser, and they had not spoken of late. “It’s quite hurtful,” he said.

Former Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale said in a large Fox News interview on Tuesday that he had “paid the price” for telling the president the truth.
“I didn’t like lying to her. I like telling her the truth,” Parscale said of host Martha MacCallum’s question about President Donald Trump yelling at her on the phone after learning the wrong numbers from surveys.
Parscale was demoted from his campaign leadership post in July, when he was replaced by Bill Stepien.
He subsequently experienced a serious episode of mental health, with his wife calling the police at their home after saying Parscale loaded a gun and threatened to harm herself.
Despite all of this and his very public demotion, Parscale told MacCallum that the President had never contacted him and that they had not spoken since.
“And it’s pretty hurtful,” Parscale said. “But it’s probably as much my fault as his. I love this family. And I’ve given them every square inch of my life, every square inch.”
Parscale also provided insight into how Trump is reacting to the difficult news and how other campaign members – whom he described as “D-level people” – capitalized on the president’s desire to see staff paint a rosy picture.
The former campaign manager said he and Jared Kushner were relegated from their perch atop the campaign when Trump’s poll results plummeted. Parscale said their willingness to be frank with Trump may have contributed to this.
“Sometimes that came with a lot of – a lot of painful days, after knowing I could have let him down or pissed him off,” Parscale said. “But a lot of those D-level people hanging around him, they just told him what he wanted to hear.”
“They were yes-men. And I was not going to be a yes-man.”
Parscale, who has been less than truthful about his work in the past, has described himself and Kushner as unsung heroes in the story of the campaign’s demise.
“I was going to be a handyman,” he says. “And I did it for [Trump]. I did it for the family. I did it for this country, because I feel like someone has to be the one telling them the truth. And I think Jared did too. “
“I think we have sometimes paid the price,” he added.
