It's the end of the world as we know it, but Brad Pitt is a little concerned. He has to go into space and have a little Heart of darkness moment with your old dad, and prevent the apocalypse from finding it.
The first trailer is here to Ad Astra, the new science fiction film by James Gray (The lost city of Z). He follows astronaut Roy McBride (Pitt), sent by Tommy Lee Jones in search of his father, in search of his father. Roy's dear dad disappeared a few decades ago while experimenting with a dangerous material that could destroy the world. And now that the world is disintegrating under the name of The Surge, it's time to find answers.
Ad Astra, which is in the works since 2017, was presented as Gray's attempt to "the most realistic representation of space travel that has been put into a film", as a result of other such ambitious projects, such as than Gravity and Interstellar. I've been passionate about this movie for a while, even though I'm troubled by the use of Heart of darkness as inspiration. But at the end of the trailer, I was still waiting for the "wow factor" that I had anticipated. It seemed like … okay, I guess.
And I'm just going to say this: It's not revealed that Liv Tyler plays a secret alien or anything of the sort – which, in my opinion, is possible, given the fact that his character does not Is not named on IMDB – I'm going to be Hercules' levels of disappointed. Tyler deserves more than being stuck by resuming her role as "woman waiting for man to come back from space". On this note, make Donald Sutherland and Ruth Negga also secret aliens. Hell, do them all secret aliens. I am game
Ad Astra was scheduled for the Memorial Day weekend, but has been delayed several times. Rumor has it that he was recently completely removed from the list after Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox. He now returns to the role and is expected to appear on September 20th.
