With just four days until the 2021 NBA Draft at Barclays Center and just over a week before free agency begins, NBA teams are starting to escalate conversations internally and externally. Team leaders diligently prepared the project through team analysis, pre-project training sessions, internal meetings, and visits with prospects. At the same time, the 30 GMs have assessed interest in potential moves and are gearing up for a week full of scenarios and the looming free agent period.

Here are two situations to watch out for at the start of the draft week:

– Washington Wizards – fresh off a 17-6 near the 2020-21 season, a playoff berth and the hiring of Denver Nuggets assistant Wes Unseld Jr. as the new head coach of the franchise – have Bradley Beal’s future front and center. Every year speculation around the league mounts about Beal and potential business demand. Every year, Beal sticks to his allegiance to the organization and he and general manager Tommy Sheppard always stay in partnership to try to create a winner in Washington.

Still: Beal has given serious thought to his future in recent weeks and has at times been very uncertain whether or not he wants to stay with the Wizards, sources told The Athletic. The All-NBA goalie should use the weekend to continue thinking about his career and could come to a decision in the week ahead. For all teams, planning and preparation before the draft week is important.
