AD Quotes: “The annual Braggin Rights Game is one of the great sporting traditions of St. Louis, and I am grateful that we were able to work with Josh whitman and his team in Illinois to ensure this meaningful game continues this season despite the challenges we all face as a result of COVID-19, ”said Missouri athletic director Jim Sterk. Louis has been the site of many memorable games in this legendary rivalry over the past 40 years, and we look forward to returning to the Enterprise Center for future games. The passion and intensity of this rivalry is what makes varsity athletics special, and despite having played on campus this season, I have no doubts that those elements will be there for both teams. Considering the financial realities that many schools face today, I believe intercollegiate athletics needs more regional rivalries like this to be played in any sport, and we look forward to working with the Illinois to play in as many different sports as possible in the years to come. “
Illinois Athletic Director Josh Whitman added, “Braggin’s rights game is special. It’s important for our teams, our universities and our fans. It also means a lot to the city of Saint-Louis. We benefit from a partnership of almost 40 years with our many friends in Saint-Louis and the Enterprise Center; Unfortunately, the complications in the current climate are too numerous to stage this year’s game. We look forward to returning the Braggin ‘Rights game to Enterprise Center in the coming years, but we’re excited to bring the 2020 edition of this series to campus. At a time when so many difficult timing decisions are being made, we have worked diligently with our friends at the University of Missouri to make sure this great game of rivalry continues. Our calendars are all marked for December 12th. Now let’s hope the coin lands with the “I” up! “
The timeline becomes clearer: Basketball season kicks off in two weeks, but No.8-ranked Illini has yet to release a schedule. Missouri is the second officially confirmed game, following Illini’s announced ACC / Big Ten Challenge game with No.9 Duke on December 9. Baylor in the Jimmy V Classic on December 2 in Indianapolis, although it’s unofficial. But a top three-game 11-day streak in December should give us a lot of insight into Illini’s hottest team for 15 years.
