What do LeBron James’ former teammates talk about like they’ve never played with him?
First, Nets goalie Kyrie Irving – who played with LeBron on the Cavaliers – said Kevin Durant was the first teammate he trusted to take clutch shots.
Now Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram – who played with the LeBron on the Lakers – has praised Zion Williamson.
Ingram:
I have never played with a player as talented as me. And he’s a generational talent.
Ingram is very talented. Williamson has even more advantages.
But LeBron is obviously doing more than sticking out in the conversation.
So, what gives?
Maybe Ingram is bitter. LeBron hasn’t treated his young teammates very well in Los Angeles. LeBron not only drove Ingram into the Anthony Davis business rumors, but LeBron also infringed on Ingram’s ability to play his game. Clearly, the Lakers were right to prioritize LeBron and Davis over Ingram. But that doesn’t mean Ingram can’t blame him.
Or maybe Ingram didn’t quite choose the word of his words. He had just played 37 minutes in New Orleans’ victory over the Pistons last night. He wanted to congratulate his teammate. Maybe Ingram embellished without thinking.
Either way, it’s a bit of LeBron.
But intention matters.
