The Los Angeles Lakers announced that Brandon Ingram had successfully undergone an operation to decompress the thoracic outlet of the right arm. The procedure was carried out Saturday by Dr. Hugh Gelabert at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
Although the impact of this operation on his summer training is not yet clear, Ingram should recover completely before the start of the 2019-2020 season. He was recently ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) on the arm.
This occurred after Ingram missed two consecutive games due to a pain in the right shoulder. Lakers head coach Luke Walton said the team was unsure of how Ingram had suffered the initial injury.
Given the seriousness of Ingram's situation, Walton politely refused to give up any details or offer more information shortly after the announcement of the team, which closed the season of the third year.
LeBron James has highlighted Ingram's health issues as a serious reminder of how things can change suddenly and why it's worth knowing that basketball at the end of the day is simply a sport .
Beyond the health implications, Ingram's lack in the last 19 games has been a personal setback. He had found a pace that played alongside James and averaged 27.8 points on 57% of his shots in six games after the All-Star break.
Even with the season shortened, Ingram finished with an average of 18.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, two career records.
