In 2017, 208 new cases of HIV were diagnosed in the western region of Pará, 129 men and 79 women. The same year, the CTA / SAE also received 13 HIV-diagnosed patients who were transferred from other states to be followed in their treatments in the CTA / SAE of Santarém.

According to CTA / SAE, 96 new cases of HIV were diagnosed in the western Pará region in 2018, including 70 men and 26 women.

According to CTA / SAE coordination, the concern with the serological status has been that every year more people are asking for the Center to do the test, hence the greatest number of HIV positive cases.

The CTA / SAE offers all available treatments in the public network for people living with HIV, such as antiretroviral drugs, as well as psychological counseling for patients and their families.

The STI / AIDS coordination surveys, available in the Epidemiology section on http://aids.saude.pa.gov.br/, indicate that between 2012 and 2016, Santarém is part of municipalities with the highest number of AIDS deaths, behind only Belém and Ananindeua.

During the same period, 4,690 people developed AIDS in Pará and another 4,393 were diagnosed with HIV, 1,899 of whom were pregnant. 2,695 people died, 1,802 men and 866 women. With regard to age groups with the highest prevalence of the virus in Pará, there are: 20 and 30 years, 30 and 40 years and 50 to 60 years.
