A measles epidemic reaches the states of Amazonas and Roraima. Until the last report, published today (2) by the Ministry of Health, had already been recorded in both states nearly 500 cases of the disease in the year. The epidemic in the region warns the state authorities and the Ministry of Health.

In total, 263 measles cases were confirmed in the Amazon, in addition to 1,368 still under investigation by the surveillance agencies and 125 already rejected. Of the total, 82% of occurrences were recorded in the capital, Manaus

In Roraima, confirmed cases reached 200, with 177 in the survey and 35 already rejected. In two cases, deaths occurred as a result of the disease.

Immunization

According to the Ministry of Health, more than 700,000 doses of the triple viral vaccine were sent to both states, used for measles, mumps and rubella. Of this total, 487,000 went to the Amazon and 224,000 to Roraima

In the Amazon, the vaccination campaign was advanced for the month of April. The target was established in the Manaus metropolitan area, in cities with more than 75,000 inhabitants and in border areas.

In Roraima, the vaccination campaign took place in 15 municipalities between March and April. He was administered 112 thousand doses.
