From June 1st to 30th, the Sergipe Emergency Hospital (Huse) recorded 104 visits to burn victims in general. Of this total, 38 were related to the periods of St. John and St. Peter (23 and 24, 28 and 29) respectively.
There were 48 victims who were burned by fireworks, including 29 children and 19 adults. A number considered larger compared to the same period last year for children burned by fireworks that reached 19 children and 29 adults. Huse Plastic Surgery Coordinator, Moema Santana, highlighted concerns about the increase in cases involving children.
"These data are very disturbing, last year we had a higher number of adults.Even most of our hospitalizations in the most severe cases were in the name of children, some admitted to the UTQ.Children suffering from burns with rain, victims of buscapé, bonfire, finger amputation by high explosive content fires. Many cases lack the supervision of an adult or a responsible person, "he explained.
Burns in children are more sensitive and the gravity is greater than in adults. 39 Burn Unit (UTQ), most hospitalizations involved children, only one adult involved in fireworks remained in the UTQ facilities
