On Tuesday afternoon, Ecuadorian justice ordered the detention of former president Rafael Correa. He is accused of ordering the kidnapping of former MP Fernando Balda in Colombia in 2012.
Correa now lives in Belgium and in June was placed in the process to establish the crime against Balda and should have appeared before the Court.
For failing to comply with this order and not appearing, the prosecutor of the CNJ, Daniella Camacho, accepted the arrest requested by the Office of the Attorney General of the Attorney General (CNJ) in Quito, Ecuadorian capital. Ecuador, Juan Pérez. and issued a red alert to Interpol, demanding that the former president be located, arrested and extradited to the country.
Correa's defense claims that his family lives in Belgium and requested that he be allowed to report to the Ecuadorean consulate in Brussels within the time limits set by the courts. The judge ignored the appeal and ordered Correa's immediate arrest during the course of the case.
Correa was at the consulate in Brussels on Monday (2) and published on his Twitter account a document in which he undertook to appear on the spot within the time required by the court, with a seal official and signature of the Vice-consul.
