UN Global Compact
After more than a year of negotiations, the United Nations (UN) on Friday adopted the text of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Orderly Migration (13). The idea of the entity is to create a comprehensive policy to tackle the problem of illegal and risky migration between countries.
According to the Portuguese Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the agreement is an "important achievement" to create better migration policies.
'Historic moment'
For the Slovak Miroslav Lajcak, President of the United Nations General Assembly, the adoption of the text of the pact is a "historic moment".
"The pact does not encourage migration, it does not pretend to stop it, it does not create legal bond, it does not impose anything." The main objective, at- he says, is that the pact "helps the poor and the poor and reduces the risk of migration," he says, "finding the right balance between the individual rights of individuals and the sovereignty of states."
Conference of December
The Covenant will be formally adopted by the member countries of the United Nations from December 11 to 11, at the holding of an intergovernmental conference in Marrakech, Morocco.
"From the month of December, the pact will officially become the first regulation" This is not the end of our task, but the beginning of a new historic effort to define a global migration policy for the next decades, "said IOM Director General, United Nations Agency for Migration, William Lacy Swing
