The Office of the Prosecutor of Rio Grande do Sul will investigate allegations of irregularities in the results of pre-cancer tests in Pelotas, in the southern region of the state. The complaint is that the laboratory charged with performing the cytopathological examinations provided by the unified health system (SUS) of the city, which detects precancerous and cancerous lesions in the cervix of the uterus, would perform the results by sampling instead of badyzing all the exams.
The Pelotas Municipal Department of Health issued a note on Friday (13) citing that in May of last year, two months before receiving a memorandum from UBS Bom Jesus Professionals, the Department of Health Surveillance Visa) conducted an inspection in the laboratory.
In this memorandum, UBS doctors and nurses expressed doubts about the results of the examinations, saying that they felt "uncertain as to their veracity". Officials also stated in the paper that "from January 2014 to June 2017 no impaired results were identified" in any cytopathological examination of the cervix collected at the health facility, suggesting that all the exams had not been badyzed.
The memorandum also mentions that one user made two exam samples at UBS Bom Jesus in the years 2015 and 2017 and that "both presented the normal result". Even though the last examination did not detect any changes, the doctor referred the patient to the specialized center, where a gynecologist diagnosed a "vegetative lesion in the cervix". The result of the biopsy revealed "squamous cell carcinoma invading the cervix", a type of cancer of the cervix of the uterus.
On this note, the Pelotas Department of Health reported that "after receiving the memorandum, signed by the doctors and nurses of UBS Bom Jesus, supervision returned to the site for further inspections and asked the quality laboratory, based on the quality management manual of the cytopathology laboratories (2012 / Inca / MS) SEG provided the necessary documentation and its sanitary license was renewed last year, valid until As of November 23 of this year ( read the full text below ).
SEG (Department of Specialized Gynecology) lawyer, Christiane Ualt Fonseca, reports that the laboratory has been providing services in the region for 43 years and calls this discredit unfortunate: "We have always been open, we have never been sought by a patient," he says.
According to Christiane, Monday the 16th The laboratory will provide a report that the city council has asked about the number of positive and negative tests. She says that the SEG began doing this quality control, which is an internal control, last year when the Ministry of Health asked after receiving the memorandum.
The lawyer explains that slides containing materials collected from patients are kept for five years.
Christiane reports that the examination process involves several people, not just the laboratory. "It all starts at the posts, where the nurses collect the material and place it on the slide, then send it to the women's health, who serves as an intermediary between the post office and the lab, and finally arrives at the SEC When we receive, the exams that were collected more than 15 days ago, we ran the post so that they collect it again. "
