Hortolandia begins vaccination against animal rabies after the 1st confirmed case; see the locations | Campinas and Region

Vaccination usually occurs during the months of August and September, but it was scheduled because of confirmation. Teams from the Zoonoses Surveillance Unit (UVZ) of the Health Secretariat will visit 2,300 residences in the Campineiro, Flamboyant, Jardim Novo Cambui and Jardim das Figueiras I and II Adventist neighborhoods to apply the doses free of charge.

Visits are from 8:30 am to 11 pm and 1 pm to 4 pm In this area, UVZ plans to apply the rabies vaccine to 570 dogs and cats. Those who are older than 3 months and have not been vaccinated will receive the first dose. The others will have their vaccination record checked.

City Council has made it clear that it seeks to prevent the spread of the disease and that there is no reason to panic. The measure aims to guide the population, count the number of dogs and cats and warn about the role of the bat in the transmission of the disease.

The Department of Health believes that the contamination of the dog has occurred after contact with an animal bat that transmits the rabies virus.
