São Paulo, 19/07 – The first stage of vaccination against FMD, carried out in May in Mato Grosso, reached 99.63% of the State's livestock, ie 29,568,091 heads of cattle and buffaloes. According to a survey of the Institute of Defense of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of Mato Grosso (Indea / MT), the highest vaccination rate was recorded in the municipality of Alta Floresta, where 100% of the herd of 780,834 heads received the vaccine. The city with the largest herd is Caceres, with 1,087,826 heads, or 99.92%, vaccinated.
Since 2005, the stages have reached vaccination rates of over 99%. In 1996, the last outbreak of the disease occurred in the state and, currently, Mato Grosso is recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) as free from FMD with vaccination. Vaccination campaigns are still ongoing as four municipalities west of the border with Bolivia (Cáceres, Vila Bela da Santíssima Trindade, Pontes and Lacerda and Porto Esperidião).
With an already structured planning, the goal of Indea-MT is to start with the withdrawal of the vaccine in northern municipalities, starting next year.
