Iran says it will react the same way if the United States tries to block oil exports

Iran will respond with equivalent measures if the United States attempts to block Iran's oil exports, Tehran's Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

US authorities are stepping up their diplomatic efforts to pressure countries to stop importing oil from Iran.

"If the United States wants to take a serious step in this direction, they will certainly react and counter-measures equivalent to Iran," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qbademi , according to the official news agency Irna. Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, reiterated on Saturday the suggestion of Iranian President Hbadan Rouhani that Tehran could block oil exports from the Persian Gulf if its own exports were halted. Tehran and Washington have worsened in recent days.

On Monday, Iran played down US President Donald Trump's warning that he would risk disastrous consequences, "as few have suffered in history before," though

Iran faces the threat of US sanctions since Trump decided in May to withdraw Washington from a nuclear deal in 2015 between the global potentials and Tehran.
