The construction of a second bridge connecting Foz do Iguaçu, in western Paraná, Paraguay, was authorized Friday afternoon (21). The work will be funded by the Itaipu factory, and the promise is that it will be ready in three years.
The international friendship bridge between Foz do Iguaçu and Ciudad del Este is currently the main link between the two countries.
The new structure will link the Porto Meira neighborhood in Foz to the town of Presidente Franco, near Ciudad del Este. There will be 760 meters of cable-stayed bridge, with two towers of 120 meters each. The start date of the work has not been revealed.
Paraguayan presidents Marito Benitez and Michel Temer (PMDB) signed a declaration authorizing the Itaipu factory to charge R302.5 million for the construction of the new bridge, taking into account the expropriations and works of art. .
"They represent not only a very big step forward for the region, but for a whole continent," said Marcos Stamm, general manager of Itaipu.

Another important work to divert truck traffic from the center of Foz is Perimetral Leste, which is expected to connect the BR-277 to the BR-469, in the area of the new bridge.
The proposals are under review, but the work is not yet confirmed.
"All this has to come from a normal plan, so when you talk about a bridge, you must have access, which naturally follows," said Itaipu's general manager .
