Avaí is on the market looking for options to strengthen the lineup this season. On Tuesday, President Francisco Battistotti confirmed that the club had good relations with midfielder Douglas, who has played for Gremio for four years. The player undergoes medical examinations in Florianopolis and will always be subject to an evaluation period of the azur technical committee before the signing of the contract until the end of 2019.

– The quality of Douglas is indisputable. He will undergo detailed examinations and if he is approved for a knee operation, he will follow a training at Avai for the technical commission to badyze. If it seems that he is able to play in Serie A, who is fit, will play Avaí.

Douglas was 37 on February 18 and said goodbye to Gremio at the end of last year after being injured. In February 2017, the midfielder fractured the anterior cruciate ligament of the right knee and underwent surgery, requiring a long period of absence of activities to recover. In October of the same season, he broke the graft and performed a new operation. He returned to work in July 2018.

Originally from Criciúma, in southern Santa Catarina, Douglas began his professional career in 2002 with Tiger himself. After a brief visit by Rizesport from Turkey, he went to São Caetano and took off in time. In 2008 at Corinthians, he helped the São Paulo team to return to the national elite under the command of Mano Menezes. He also returned to Timão between 2012 and 2014. He also played for Al Wasl, United Arab Emirates, as well as Vasco and Grêmio
