Vale confirmed that the Secretary of State for the Environment and Sustainable Development (Semad) had canceled the authorization to operate the Laranjeiras Dam at the Brucutu mine in São Gonçalo do Rio Bene, the largest company in Minas Gerais
In a note, the company also informed that Semad had been ordered to immediately suspend the Jangada mine, as it considered that the license was unified at the Córrego Mine do Feijão, site of the Brumadinho dam rupture. According to the company, the Jangada mine was already paralyzed following the cessation of the operation in the region affected by the tragedy.
Earlier this week, Vale had already informed the shutdown of tailings at several dams, including Laranjeiras, which was built according to the conventional method and has a valid certificate of stability. Vale therefore understands that there is no technical and legal basis or risk badessment justifying the cancellation of the Provisional Operating License (APO).
