The hospital incorporates a pioneering project

Still in the capital, the Minister of Health visited the southeast (51,172), the northeast (42,659), the north (11,072) and south (2,166) facilities of the General Hospital Dr. Francisco Ayres, known as the General Hospital of Palmas. The large hospital specializes in medium and high complexity procedures, including those focused on trauma and corneal transplantation. The unit currently has 395 beds across the SUS, with 41 intensive care units.

Since July 2017, Palmas General Hospital has been participating in the Lean in Emergencies project, developed by the Ministry of Health in partnership with Hospital Sírio -Libanês (SP) through SUS Institutional Development Support Program (PROADI-SUS ). The project focuses on improving care in emergencies and emergencies of hospitals that attend SUS. In Brazil, six hospitals are pioneers in the implementation of Lean methodology, and the General Hospital of Palmas, one of these units.

The initiative seeks to organize internal flows to improve resources, spaces and inputs through tools. One of the processes, for example, measures the overcrowding of emergencies from such parameters as the bed occupancy rate, the number of beds, the time of emergency, the time off, among others. At the Palmas General Hospital, the diagnosis highlighted difficulties in patients leaving the hospital. In this way, the staff of Hospital Sírio Libanês organized a course with professionals from the institution to qualify the flows.

"This unit has improved its emergency and emergency management and has qualified its functionality, with a reduction in the length of hospitalization and the possibility of hospitalization for those who need it most and are waiting in the corridor. It is more than 30 days without patients in the hallway, which is a great achievement. "In practice, this measure organizes the whole process and the people who benefit from it are the population ", said Minister of Health Gilberto Occhi
