Beijing, 13 – China's trade surplus has risen sharply because of a surge in trade tensions with the United States. The Asian country said it had a trade surplus of US $ 41.61 billion in June, after registering a surplus of US $ 24.92 billion in May, according to the Customs Administration. Economists surveyed by the Wall Street Journal predicted $ 26 billion.
The most important result was largely due to imports, which rose 14.1% in June compared to the same month last year, the highest of 26% observed in May. Analysts have forecast an increase of 23.5%.
Chinese exports measured in dollars, in turn, increased by 11.3% in June in the annual comparison, while in May this increase was 12.6%.
China's surplus with the United States peaked in June, at $ 28.97 billion. The figures are published during a trade dispute between the two countries, after the US government threatens to impose duties on 200 billion dollars of additional Chinese products.
In terms of yuan, exports rose 3.1% in June and imports rose 6.0% from one year to the next. The trade surplus was 261.88 billion yuan last month, according to official figures.
Throughout the first half of this year, the Chinese surplus amounted to 901.32 billion yuan. Source: Dow Jones Newswires
