The ghost Jon Jones can still haunt Daniel Cormier, but on Saturday, the fighter won what his rival would have liked to do. In the UFC 226 super-heavyweight category in Las Vegas, the light heavyweight champion beat Stipe Miocic by knockout at 4m33 in the first round and earned his second belt of Ultimate Heavyweights simultaneously. The historical performance is equal to Conor McGregor, who in 2016 became champion of light weight, already champion of penalties.
– I was a heavyweight for a long time, and I left the division. I never knew what I could be, but today we got the answer: Heavyweight Champion, baby! cried Cormier, ecstatic with victory. – Let me tell you something: I've built this heavyweight division and now it's full of beginners. Ngannou is a m ***, Lewis is a m ***, Miocic is a m ***. DC, I'll have it! Brock shot before hitting the camera.
Fans shot the cry of "DC!" soon in the first seconds of the showdown, but who took the reins of the fight was the champion. Miocic quickly shortened the distance and connected the first shots. While strapping to the wrestling expert, he even lay down and recovered his back, but Cormier managed to straighten up and make the turn to keep his back on the railing. With a large number of strokes, Miocic left a knee in the clinch and showed some speed in the hands, but DC reacted with left jabs that began to enter the champion's face. The fight was open, and Cormier grew up. When the challenger experienced his best moment, a finger in the accidental eye interrupted the duel.
Miocic did not ask for much time to put his finger in the eye. He returns soon to fight and Cormier follows better. The challenger looked for a clinch, and as he was clearing his opponent, he dropped a right crusader on Miocic's chin, which had already fallen. DC rose and hit a few more shots before Marc Goddard finished the fight.
Daniel Cormier poses with his two belts: weightlifter "In the study, we noticed that Stipe is coming out of melee with the hands a bit low, and today I was able to enjoy that with this right hand," explains Cormier, who did not hold back the emotion recalling that in July 2017, left crying out of the cage after being knocked out by Jon Jones, a result that would be canceled weeks later after his machete was caught in the anti-doping test.
– I am 39 years old and have been several times second, but today I have finally managed everything. Since crying in this same octagon almost a year ago, becoming the UFC heavyweight champion, is the most incredible sensation I've ever felt – said the champion of the light trucks (up to 93 kg) and heavy goods vehicles (up to 120, 2kg).
