The update for Android Oreo has removed the native feature that allowed the user of various Xperia devices to customize the interface in different ways, going a step further than the background of. screen, icons and appearance of the home screen. The Xperia XZ2 comes on the market with a new system that reopens all these possibilities, even with Android Oreo already installed. And, to the delight of Sony users, the developer niaboc79 has published in the forum XDA Developers a way to reactivate these functions in older devices, such as XZ, XZ, X Performance, X, XZ Premium and XZ1.
The step by step varies depending on the device. But the instructions are all in this topic on the developer forum. Curiously, the two smartphones that seem to have the most complicated process are the latest, XZ Premium and XZ1.
Only for these two there is a recommendation to make a backup, but it does not cost anything to copy your files whatever devices you use. There is no need to root on any smartphone for the new theme system to work.
If you are thinking about changing your smartphone and think it might be a good sign to start looking for a new device, take a look at our previous badysis of Xperia XZ2. We have also published the review of the XZ2 Compact, which presents some minor differences with the larger model only.
