National Secretary of Public Security, Guilherme Theophilo, said Tuesday (5) that National Force troops would be "phased out" of this week in Ceará.

The performance of the National Force in that state ended 31 days Tuesday. Currently, 420 police and 93 vehicles are in the state task force to combat the wave of violence that has been spreading since the beginning of the year. Last week, however, no attacks were recorded.

The secretary did not specify the dates or the number of police officers who will leave the state in the coming days, but said that the schedule should last between "one and two months".

"We will gradually withdraw the national force from the state of Ceará, about a month or so, and then we will feel that time pbades whether the attacks can come back or not," Theophilo explained.

According to the secretary, the decrease in attacks began after the transfer of prisoners to federal prisons. During the 31 days of the National Force, 35 detainees were transferred.

"We removed 20 leaders of the State Guard and Red Command, we detained the federal maximum security prison Mossoro, which helped to calm the decline of attacks", a- he explained.

Since 2 January, the date of the beginning of the criminal proceedings, 261 attacks against buses, cars, public buildings, prefectures and businesses have been perpetrated in 50 of the 184 municipalities of Ceará.

The actions began in Fortaleza and spread to the metropolitan area and several towns in the interior. The Ceará Public Security Secretariat confirmed that 461 people had already been arrested for involvement in criminal acts.
