Main postcard of the city of Cascavel, west of Paraná, the Municipal Lake had its doors closed as a precaution after finding that a cougar is on the spot.

On the morning of this Saturday (14), the Municipal Secretary of the Environment, Romulo Quintino, said that there were at least two jaguars in different parts of the city.

The first information about the presence of nocturnal animals reached the beginning of July, but the confirmation came only Tuesday (10), when the guards of the city opened the doors of the lake and discovered the jaguar.

Moments earlier, a security camera had spotted the animal walking hurriedly past a mortuary chapel. In the video, you can see a man running scared.

The presence of felines has changed the routine of the lake, which receives about eight thousand people at weekends. The place is a meeting place for leisure and people who usually walk, run and other sports and cultural activities.

Teachers Valmira Meireles and Francine Lemes took the first day of vacation to drink chimarrão in the lake and were restricted to access before the doors.

They confess that the presence of jaguars scares, but they think that this should not be a reason to stop the city. "It's scary, we're all very scared, not all care is enough, but we can not be alone inside, scared by the jaguar," says Valmira.

Francine said that she was a little scared, but she thought that she would have enjoyed better her first day on the lake. "It's the only place where we have to take Chimarrão," he says.

Vendor Luiz Henrique de Oliveira and psychologist Jessica Santos Viana live in Ubiratã, 85 km from Cascavel, and are in town to celebrate a year of marriage. With the repercussion of the case, they decided to visit the lake the afternoon of Saturday.

Jessica said that she was surprised that the public space was empty. "I believe that during the day there is no danger, she must sleep, one, two or three, but as a precaution, it is better to stay well, a little without anyone, then back to normal", Jessica explains.

Osmar Fernando dos Santos, who sells mineral water to lake lovers and saw his sales plummet, did not like the jaguar's story. He supports the ban, but says he hopes they'll capture the jaguar as quickly as possible. "I'm waiting for people to go back around the lake, they're gone, hopefully she'll fall into a trap and they'll take her," she says. he.

The doors of the lake, which lies inside the complex of Paulo Gorski's Environmental Park, were closed Tuesday and are expected to remain closed until next Tuesday (17). The traps were set up to try to capture the animal, but until then failed.

At dawn on Saturday (14), a tranquilizer dart was fired that hit the jaguar, but the cat managed to escape. "In the morning, the dart was found and it was empty, which means that the tranquilizer was injected," said the secretary.

The Cascavel Municipal Lake is used by canoe athletes, some of them integrate the Brazilian selection of modality. They train locally for national and international competitions. The municipal environmental department has decided to allow training during the day, since jaguars have nocturnal habits.
