The Health Secretariat stresses the need to prevent disease
The Health Department of the Government of Rio Grande do Sul reported Wednesday a reduction in the number of deaths from AIDS in the state. Despite this, Piratini emphasized the importance of prevention to prevent the spread of the disease that attacks the immune system. In addition, RS still has a mortality well above the national rate for the disease.
Between January 2007 and January 2017, 194,217 cases of HIV infection were reported in Brazil, including 40,275 in the Southern Region and 18,901 in Rio Grande do Sul. For mortality (with 2016 data), the national average is 5.2 deaths per 100,000 population. In the Southern region, there are 6.7 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. And, in the state, 9.6 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. The number of deaths remains high, but there is a downward trend: in RS alone, the death rate fell by 17.2% between 2006 and 2016.
On Wednesday, Porto Alegre hosted the second meeting of the UNAIDS 2018 Working Group. For the first time, the meeting was held outside Brasília, in the Federal District. GT Unaids (United Nations Expanded Theme Group on HIV / AIDS) is one of the arms of UNAIDS, the UN program that seeks solutions to fight the disease in the world whole. With the collaboration of global, national and regional partners, the goal is to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030.
"This exchange of information is fundamental to us achieving better and achieving our goals. The focus should be on the most vulnerable populations and especially on young people. We have to talk to them in their language, "says the director of Unaids Brazil. Georgiana Braga Orillard.
