The Tamoios Highway (SP-99), the main link between the Paraíba Valley and the north coast of São Paulo, was closed Wednesday morning (6) due to the risk of falling barriers in the Serra da Serra. .
The Tamoios concessionaire indicated that the measure had been taken for safety reasons and that the accumulation of rain of the last days entailed a risk of falling barriers on the section.
The road safety protocol requires that Tamoios be closed if the rain gauges record 100 millimeters in 72 hours. During the last three days, the dealer recorded a rainfall of 106 millimeters.
The dams are located at km 58, towards the coast, and km 81, towards São José dos Campos.
Thus, traffic on the road section was blocked by the risk of collapse of the barrier. There is no deadline for the exit of the track. Alternatives for pilots are Rodovia Oswaldo Cruz, which connects Taubaté to Ubatuba and Mogi-Bertioga.
The prohibitions at Tamoios occur in the following points:
• Km 58 (return). Access to the highway SP-088 Salesópolis
Road towards São José dos Campos
• Km 81 (in front of the military police base)
In 2018, the Tamoios Highway has been blocked at least twice by the dealer. In November, the road was closed for more than 90 hours because of heavy rains that recorded at least 23 occurrences between landslides and falling trees.
