Luka Doncic has agreed to a five-year, $ 207 million extension with the Dallas Mavericks, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Doncic’s agent Bill Duffy. Days after returning to Slovenia after an inspired run at the Tokyo Olympics, Doncic receives the biggest supermax rookie extension in NBA history.
In a highly publicized movement, a front office contingent including Dirk Nowitzki arrived in Slovenia to meet Doncic and Duffy in Ljubljana to physically hand over to the young star her new max contract. Although free agency started last week, Doncic has made it clear that he wants to focus exclusively on the Olympic tournament and tackle his contract afterwards.
Upon signing, Doncic said: “Today is a dream come true. I am honored and excited to stay in Dallas as a member of the Mavericks, and I appreciate the support of my fans. “
It’s been a whirlwind offseason for Doncic, who has had little free time since the Mavericks’ early exit from the NBA playoffs. Now he’s kicking off a well-deserved vacation with a massive, well-deserved deal.
Here is the breakdown of the Luka rookie max expansion:
22 / 23- $ 35.7 M
23 / 24- $ 38.6 M
24 / 25- $ 41.4 M
25 / 26- $ 44.3 M
26 / 27- $ 47.1 MThe extension is based on 30% of the projected salary cap of $ 119 million in 2022-23.

Everywhere, MFFL can breathe a sigh of relief as the franchise-saving superstar makes a commitment to the Mavericks. While there was no doubt that he would sign the agreement, the physical act alone is cause for celebration.
New Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison has had a relatively quiet first offseason under control. He signed a new long-term contract with sniper Tim Hardaway Jr., while adding winger Reggie Bullock to the rotation. There are also pending signings from Sterling Brown and Boban Marjanovic. While there’s an obvious job building the roster so the Mavericks can finally get through the first round of the playoffs, knowing that Doncic is committed to the franchise for the future is a great place to start.
