Breathtaking iPhone FOLD concept transforms from a regular smartphone to an iPad Mini

The internet is teeming with rumors that Apple worked on a foldable iPhone, and the patents even show Apple experimented with different layouts … but if there’s one thing I learned about Apple, they don’t release as products that fit perfectly into their ecosystem, and they spend years on product development in pursuit of perfection; although it can sometimes mean that the competitors beat them the hardest. That being said, Svyatoslav Alexandrov’s iPhone Fold concept makes a compelling case for a foldable smartphone. Here’s why.

From a strict ecosystem perspective, the iPhone Fold is helping Apple develop a product that fits into two categories: the hugely popular smartphone category and the dead mini-tablet category. With the iPhone Fold, Apple could easily interrupt the iPad Mini and focus on high-end, professional-grade tablets. The foldable phone would then absorb the functionality of the iPad Mini, giving you a device that is literally the best of both worlds.

The iPhone Fold concept designed by Svyatoslav Alexandrov (for the ConceptsiPhone YouTube channel) comes in the familiar Galaxy Fold format, with a 6.3-inch main display on the outside and a larger 8-inch foldable display on the inside. . It ditches FaceID for the reliable TouchID and turns the entire main screen into a fingerprint sensor – so you can unlock your phone just by swiping up. The lack of FaceID means a significantly smaller notch with a single front camera for selfies. The rear, however, comes with the entire iPhone 12 Pro camera setup, complete with wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses, plus a flash and LiDAR scanner. Open the iPhone and it transforms into a square iPad Mini designed to be perfectly portable. While the concept doesn’t say much about this device’s compatibility with Apple Pencil, I’d like to think it does, and designer Svyatoslav Alexandrov mentions that the concept is MagSafe compatible and 5G ready. , which already makes it a very good iPad. replacement, all things considered.

Multiple sources claim Apple is already working on a foldable phone, and patents show the company is researching details of hinges and even folding batteries. However, until foldable phones really turn out to be a category of smartphones that’s here to stay, I suspect Apple’s experiments will never really see the light of day. It’s fun though to speculate on how a foldable iPhone can fit perfectly into Apple’s ecosystem by relaunching one product line (the iPhone) and retiring another (the iPad Mini)!
