ARLINGTON, Texas – Star player Alex Bregman left the Houston Texas game on Thursday night after a ground ball came up and hit him on the chin.

Manager AJ Hinch said in an interview in the game broadcast on ESPN that it seemed that Bregman's chin was cracked. Hinch said that Bregman wanted to stay in the match, but the team made him go out for it to be examined by a doctor.

Bregman was playing the short game and was heading to the middle of the infield in the third inning when he went to attack a ground player hit by Shin-Soo Choo. The ball took a late high high and caught Bregman on the lower half of his face, and there seemed to be blood when a coach looked after him.

The Astros later described the laceration injury of the chin. Hinch said Bregman needed four stitches.

Bregman is Houston's third-leading goalkeeper, but he played against Charles Correa on the injured list.

Myles Straw replaced Bregman at the short stop. The Astros lost 5-0.
