“This continues in the hands of independent investigators and prosecutors, those of the FBI and the US Department of Justice,” Wine said. “Violations of federal civil rights in the guise of law, resulting in the death of an individual, carry the same penalties, if not more severe, as those provided by Kentucky law.”
“The Commonwealth Office prosecutor does not plan to take this case to another grand jury while there is a federal investigation underway,” Wine added. “To do so would create a risk of inconsistent and potentially embarrassing results and recommendations rather than advancing justice in this case.”
