PHILADELPHIA – The Brewers call the best hope Keston Hiura, apparently to replace Travis Shaw, injured.

The player's movements, reported for the first time by The Athletic on Tuesday, have not yet been confirmed by the club. But a San Antonio report revealed that Cory Spangenberg had been nominated for a mission, opening a list of 40 players for Hiura.

The report that Shaw has a wrist problem is new because he played Monday night against Philadelphia and he did not leave the game scoring 0-3 with two goals. There was no mention later that Shaw had a wrist problem.

Shaw had been excluded from training during the weekend in Chicago to work on his momentum in hopes of coming out of a crisis that lasted the entire season. Monday's 0-on-3 dropped his batting average to .163, the lowest among the National League's hitter qualifiers, with just four home runs, eight RBIs and 50 strikeouts.

Hiura, 22, is a prodigy striker since his first-round pick (ninth overall) in the Cal-Irvine 2017 draft. In 37 games with the AAA San Antonio class, he averaged .333 with a .408 percentage on the base and 1,106 OPS, with 11 homers and 26 RBIs.

Hiura has been named the organization's best prospect since the Brewers traded Lewis Brinson to the Miami Marlins prior to the 2018 season as part of the deal that brought Christian Yelich to Milwaukee.

If Shaw is actually headed for the pestle, Mike Moustakas would return from second to third base, his original position. Moustakas moved into second place this spring, allowing Shaw to remain in his natural third base position.

Moustakas was one of the Brewers' most productive players, with a .844 OPS record and 10 home runs (second on the team).
