Winning a series is always good, and the Brewers did it with their win this afternoon over the Washington Nationals, 7-3. Adrian Houser, fresh off the injured list, took the start. Although it didn’t last long, it was effective. On 3.1 IP, Houser allowed just one run on 3 hits while striking out 3. Aaron Ashby was the other highlight this afternoon in the pitching department. In the 2 innings he pitched, he didn’t give up anything by taking out 4. He got into a base-laden jam in the fourth, but struggled to get by with some dirty breaking stuff.
The Brewers were on base all afternoon. In fact, the Brewers hitters managed to induce 10 walks and 2 hitters hit by the Nationals pitching pitch. Add to that 9 hits and Washington really had no luck in this one.
Kolten Wong threw it from the start at the end of the first set with a solo first shot.
That wouldn’t be the end of the scoring in this one for Milwaukee. Wong was also responsible for the next 2 heats and finished in the bottom of the fourth. After consecutive walks to Manny Pina and Jackie Bradley Jr., Wong tripled the straight field line to take the lead.
It was a lead the Brewers wouldn’t give up. At the end of the sixth, the Brewers scored these 2 points without touching. Manny Pina was hit by a throw. After a withdrawal from Rowdy Tellez, Kolten Wong and Willy Adames provoked walks. Suddenly, the bases were loaded for Christian Yelich. Yelich kicked a ball down to Josh Bell at first base who walked over first base for strength. In an attempt to throw Manny Pina home, Bell shot his catcher. Not only did Pina score, but Wong too.
The last of 7 points scored by Milwaukee came in the bottom of the seventh. Luis Urias opened the set with a walk. Lorenzo Cain followed with a bomb to the left center field wall for his fifth of the season and a 7-1 lead for the Brewers.
Washington would score 2 early in the ninth, but after the seventh the game was never really in doubt. Now the Brew Crew is taking their day off tomorrow while they await the arrival of the Cincinnati Reds in town. Tuesday’s first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 am CT. Corbin Burnes will face Tyler Mahle. The game can be seen on Bally Sports Wisconsin. It can be heard on WTMJ 620 and the Brewers Radio Network.
