Gabby Petito’s boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, who is also missing and is wanted by the FBI, suffered from jealousy and control issues and experienced “episodes” in which he heard voices and could not sleep, has Petito’s friend told the Daily Mail.
Rose Davis, 21, of Sarasota, described Laundrie as a controlling and manipulative boyfriend, in an incident where she stole Petitio’s ID card so she couldn’t go out to bars with her.
Petito had described the strange episodes to Davis, which sometimes caused Petito to sleep in her house.
“He has these issues of jealousy and he’s fighting what Gabby called these ‘episodes’ where he would hear things and voices and not sleep,” she told the outlet.
“Gabby must have stayed at my house several times because she just needed a breather and didn’t want to go home.”
Davis said she “considered [Laundrie] a friend ”, after spending time with the couple.
She said she thought she was one of Petito’s only friends she had in Florida after moving from Long Island, and believed Laundrie was jealous of their relationship and pushed her away from him.
She said the two friends would share locations on their iPhones to protect themselves “in case we got lost”, but Laundrie had Petito stop sharing once he found out.
“He had that composure as a gentle, kind, caring guy. But we can say that he is a little offbeat, a little weird. Like, he would set up our hammocks when we went to the beach, but wouldn’t sit with us, which I found weird, ”she told the Daily Mail.
“Brian has a problem with jealousy,” Rose said. “I’m his only friend in Florida that I know of and just because she can’t make friends, he just didn’t want her to have any.”
“He was still afraid that she would leave him,” she said. “It was a constant thing to try to get us to stop hanging around.”
Davis told the Daily Mail she last spoke to Petito in early August, where they discussed meeting in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming for Davis’ birthday on August 29. Davis said she asked for several days off but never went after never getting back from Petito.
She said the couple had never fought in front of her, but believed she could tell when they had just argued. She said that in the first year of her acquaintance, Petito spent between seven and 10 nights at her house after they got into a fight.
“I believe their relationship as they went on became more and more problematic. It just seemed like there were more and more arguments, ”she told the Daily Mail, adding that they still planned to get married despite Petito telling his mother that it had been. canceled.
“Everything she did, I get the feeling he thought it was wrong.”
Body camera footage of the couple fighting in Utah shows Petito inconsolably crying next to Laundrie.
“For her anxiety to act like this, there has to be something decent to trigger it,” Davis said, adding that she was aware that Petito was suffering from anxiety. She said she wished Petito had decided to call her after this incident.
“I’m a little upset that she didn’t call me after this fight because she would have done it before,” Davis said.
Petito has not been seen since August 30, when she was crossing the country with Laundrie.
Petito was reported missing on September 11 after spending more than a week without contacting his family.
Laundrie returned alone in her van to the Florida home they shared on September 1 and is now missing.
Davis said he spoke to North Port Police on Tuesday to give them all the information she said. She considered contacting the laundry.
“I wanted to stand in front of his house and beg him to tell me where he last saw her, but I know he won’t and I can’t force him to talk to me,” he said. she declared to the Mail while crying.
“As far as we know he is scared and handles it all badly. I just wish he could talk. Just give me three words, the name of a park. Give me something, something.
