Hairdresser and makeup artist Marc Pilcher died of COVID-19 on Sunday at the age of 53. He was doubly vaccinated and had no underlying health problems, according to his agency Curtis Brown.
“It is with the deepest hearts that we confirm that Marc Elliot Pilcher, Oscar nominee and Emmy Award winning hair and makeup designer / stylist, has passed away after a battle with Covid-19 on Sunday, October 3, 2021” his family told Variety in a statement via Curtis Brown.
Pilcher recently won the Creative Emmy for Outstanding Hairstyle of a Period and / or Character on September 11 for his work on Netflix’s “Bridgerton”.
The creator had tested negative on several COVID-19 tests in order to make the trip to the ceremony; however, shortly after returning home, he fell ill.

“Bridgerton” star Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, wrote a emotional tribute to his late friend. “So heartbroken by the loss of Marc Pilcher, the brilliant and visionary hair and makeup designer for Season 1 of ‘Bridgerton’. Marc was so passionate about his job and so talented. Not even a month ago, he won his first Emmy Award.

“It is a tragedy that he was taken away so young when he still had so much to do. Please also use this to remind yourself that Covid is still a very real and present danger, please get vaccinated and masked for you protect and protect others. ”she tweeted. “My heart goes out to his friends and family, especially his wonderful team Lynda, Lou, Adam, Hollie, Tanya and Claire. Coughlan co-star Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne Bridgerton, also expressed grief, writing on her Instagram story that she is “at a loss for words.”

Pilcher has worked on several film and television productions such as “Mary Queen of Scots”, “Downton Abbey”, “Judy” and “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms”. He has also lent his expertise to several West End plays.
He also won an Oscar nomination in 2019 for “Mary Queen of Scots”.
