Bridgerton fans discover historic error in opening scene

“Bridgerton” officially joined the likes of “Little Women” and “Games of Thrones” with an apparent on-screen error that included a modern device.

As several Twitter users have pointed out, an opening scene from the show’s first episode, set in the 1800s, shows a horse drawn carriage turning a corner on a cobblestone road with a yellow line painted on one far side. But these lines, which indicate parking restrictions, were not conceptualized in the UK until 1947, according to UK newspaper The Independent.

The yellow line on the side of the road indicates parking restrictions and was not invented in the UK until the 1940s.

“I’m really enjoying Bridgerton, but with the technology that filmmakers have these days, a yellow line?” a person tweeted.

“Two episodes in #Bridgerton and I have so far spotted a single yellow line and a telecommunications manhole cover,” added another. “I did not know that the 19th century British were such pioneers …”

A third Twitter user claims that they spotted several Primark posters in a window in a scene. Primark, founded in 1969, is an Irish retail chain with over 100 stores in England, where “Bridgerton” was filmed.

The Regency-era romantic drama based on Julia Quinn’s book series took off on Netflix after its December 25 debut. Netflix earlier this month that “Bridgerton” was set to become the platform’s fifth-largest original series with a projected reach of more than 63 million households in four weeks.

Last week the show’s official Twitter account confirmed that it will return to the streaming giant for a second season. Its creator, Chris Van Dusen, joined Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager today Thursday to discuss what fans can expect from season two.

“We’re going to start filming later this spring in London, and we’re all very excited,” Van Dusen told Hoda and Jenna. “I know the cast can’t wait to come back, and neither am I.”

He added that next season will focus on Lord Anthony Bridgerton, the oldest of the titular Bridgerton family, and said fans will be introduced to new characters.

“I think it’s going to be as drastic and moving and as beautiful as the viewers of the first season have come to expect from the show,” he said.
