‘Bridgerton’ Renewed For Season 2 On Netflix – Deadline

Bridgerton fans can look forward to “exciting news” later this week, according to Netflix.

The hit drama Shondaland is set to be renewed every day after the success of its first season, and the streamer has used its latest quarterly financial results to tease viewers.

“This title has proven to be extremely popular and we will have some interesting news on Bridgerton later this week, ”he noted in his fourth quarterly letter to shareholders.

It comes after Netflix revealed that the period drama, which premiered on December 25, was set to be watched by 63 million households in its first 28 days, making it the fifth largest launch of the streamer’s original series.

The show follows eight brothers and sisters close to the Bridgerton family in search of love and happiness in London’s high society.

Starring Phoebe Dynevor as Daphne Bridgerton and Rege-Jean Page as Duke of Hastings Simon Bassett, the series is based on Julia Quinn’s novels set in the world of Regency London.

There are eight books in the Quinn series and creator and showrunner Chris Van Dusen has said that while the first season is mostly about Daphe’s love affair with Simon, he would love to tell stories for all of the brothers and Bridgerton sisters – including four sons Anthony, Benedict, Colin and Gregory and three other daughters Eloise, Francesca and Hyacinth. Van Dusen has said that if successful, he would like eight seasons to unfold.

A second season, if it follows the course of the books, should follow Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey. The second book – The viscount who loved me – focused on its history.

There are also a lot of ends to tie from the first season after [SPOILER] Penelope Featherington, played by Derry Girls Nicola Coughlan, turned out to be the shady gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, and Polly Walker’s Portia Featherington found out who inherited her late husband’s estate.

Bridgerton marks Shondaland’s first show for Netflix after Shonda Rhimes hits a major global deal. Rhimes exec produces alongside Van Dusen and Betsy Beers.
