Bridgerton made an explosive debut on Netflix, coming in the midst of a quieter holiday season spent indoors and at home. With the masses in quarantine, Shonda Rhimes’ adaptation of Julia Quinn’s popular book series became an instant hit, sparking discussions about deadlines and eliciting dedicated crushes (hello, Duke of Hastings). With colorful decor from the Regency London of 1813, steamy romances, glitzy wardrobes and provocative scandals, how could viewers resist? Season 2 has yet to be confirmed, but it seems likely.
At this point, Netflix has yet to confirm the renewal, despite the show’s obvious popularity among viewers. Julia Quinn readers know it’s a nod to the late Bridgerton patriarch Edmund who died of an allergic reaction to a bee sting, leaving behind his wife, Violet, and their children. The story of her disappearance is revealed in the prologue to Bridgerton’s second novel, The viscount who loved me, which focuses on the elder, Anthony, Squire points out. Anthony (played by Jonathan Bailey) develops a fear of bees following the untimely death of his father.
Because the first season of Bridgerton loosely focused on the first book in the series, The duke and me, it’s possible that the second season will focus on the sequel, delving deeper into Anthony’s life.
Phoebe Dynevor wants the show to focus more on Anthony too.

He added: “The first season was about Daphne and she followed her relationship, her love affair with Simon. And the Bridgerton books [written by Julia Quinn] – there are eight books, they are about eight siblings. And if successful, I wish I could explore stories and romances for every brother in Bridgerton. Of course I would love to be able to do that. “
Lady Whistledown has ideas for Season 2.
The final episode revealed mysterious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown’s big secret: that her infamous scandal sheets are in fact written by young Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). Now that her identity has been revealed, how could she play another season?
