Minor spoilers for Bridgerton ahead.
Bridgerton made an explosive debut on Netflix, coming in the midst of a quieter holiday season spent indoors and at home. With the masses in quarantine, Shonda Rhimes’ adaptation of Julia Quinn’s popular book series became an instant hit, sparking discussions about deadlines and eliciting dedicated crushes (hello, Duke of Hastings). With colorful decor from the Regency London of 1813, steamy romances, glitzy wardrobes and provocative scandals, how could viewers resist? For those of us who’ve skimmed our frenzy over the holidays, we’re investigating what might happen next. Bridgerton.
Season 2 has yet to be confirmed, but it seems likely.
At this point, Netflix has yet to confirm the renewal, despite the show’s obvious popularity among viewers. However, several sites reported listing in Weekly production for a project called “Bridgerton 02” which will debut in Uxbridge, England in March 2021, hinting that a follow-up season is underway. We’re still waiting for the official word from Netflix, however.
That bee in the finale could be a clue to the plot of Season 2.
After Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and her husband Simon, the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) welcome a child at the end of Episode 8, a bee appears in their window. Julia Quinn readers know it’s a nod to the late Bridgerton patriarch Edmund who died of an allergic reaction to a bee sting, leaving behind his wife, Violet, and their children. The story of her disappearance is revealed in the prologue to Bridgerton’s second novel, The viscount who loved me, which focuses on the elder, Anthony, Squire points out. Anthony (played by Jonathan Bailey) develops a fear of bees following the untimely death of his father.
Because the first season of Bridgerton loosely focused on the first book in the series, The duke and me, it’s possible that the second season will focus on the sequel, delving deeper into Anthony’s life.
Phoebe Dynevor wants the show to focus more on Anthony too.
“I think, obviously, if we stick to the books, it’s kind of Anthony’s turn now,” Dynevor said. BAZAAR.com, showing his character’s older brother. “I would like to see what happens next. And also, I would like to see Daphne get involved in Anthony’s love life, because he was so involved in hers, ”she added.
Daphne and Simon might find more trouble in Heaven.
After the prospect of having children nearly tears them apart, the couple (and now the new parents) may face new challenges as their story continues, Regé-Jean Page believes. “I’m not sure I believe in heaven. I know the romance genre in general – part of the deal is you get a happy ending,” he told TV Land about what could come of it. the story of Daphne and Simon.
He added: “They are getting married very young. They still have a lot to do. They have a lot to do, and I think it will always be fun to see them do this together.”
Showrunner Chris Van Dusen has a plan to continue the series.
When asked to continue Bridgerton after the first season, said Van Dusen The Wrap, “It may be too early to talk about it at this point. I have a plan and a vision in mind for success.”
He added: “The first season was about Daphne and she followed her relationship, her love affair with Simon. And the Bridgerton books [written by Julia Quinn] – there are eight books, they are about eight siblings. And if successful, I wish I could explore stories and romances for every brother in Bridgerton. Of course I would love to be able to do that. “
Lady Whistledown has ideas for Season 2.
The final episode revealed mysterious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown’s big secret: that her infamous scandal sheets are in fact written by young Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). Now that her identity has been revealed, how could she play another season?
“One of the great things that I really look forward to is that, logically, Eloise [Bridgerton, Penelope’s best friend] would enter society, ”Coughlan said BAZAAR. “And I’m really excited, both in real life and in the story, to have a friend at the balls. Just to let Penelope have some more fun, because I feel like she can’t do it. “
Coughlan wants to see Penelope “be a young girl and have fun, and hopefully become a little more confident.” She added that the public’s knowledge of Whistledown’s identity “is going to be amazing, because it’s like they’re in the know.” Remember, Londoners from Bridgerton I still don’t know who Whistledown really is.
