As the buzz swirls around which characters in season 2 of Bridgerton will focus on, and if producers do indeed shoot new installments in March, star Phoebe Dynevor has doubts about how COVID security protocols might alter logistics.
“I can’t imagine how it would be possible to film under these circumstances,” Dynevor, who plays Daphne on the hit series, told our sister site Deadline. Netflix has not officially announced a renewal, although that is almost certain. “There are so many extras and so many crew members, and it’s a very intimate show. It just confuses me how we would film it under COVID rules unless there is a vaccine ahead of time.
One of the biggest streamer launches to date, Bridgerton has been viewed by 63 million homes and is the inaugural Shondaland / Netflix deal series by Shonda Rhimes. Showrunner Chris Van Dusen created the lush and racially inclusive drama of the Regency Era, based on the hugely popular book series by author Julia Quinn.
Production on BridgertonThe eight-episode, eight-episode freshman season ended around the same time last year, shortly before the coronavirus pandemic came to a halt and ultimately changed the way television shows and the movies are being shot now. But given how sexy and sultry this soapy offering is, Dynevor’s concerns can be understood.
For example, Rege-Jean Page’s steamy love scenes between Daphne and The Duke of Hastings took six weeks to choreograph, she says. Page and Dynevor worked with an intimacy coordinator, and the actress says their chemistry couldn’t have flourished under masks and face shields.
Dynevor’s Shot Younger last year after finishing Bridgerton and had to follow COVID security protocols, which was very restrictive in comparison.
“When I was filming, it was masks during rehearsals,” she says. “So you don’t take them off before [they] say “action”. Or at least we didn’t. It was a really strange experience. I didn’t see the face of my character’s new boyfriend until I filmed a scene together, which was really weird.
