Built a century ago in 1913, Freestone Castle – located in the heart of Greenwich – has 11 bedrooms and 15 bathrooms.

Architect James C. Green first built the house for a Revolutionary War descendant, General Israel Putnam. The estate has undergone several modern interior renovations, but the historic structure remains.

The chateau – made up of brick and stone – sits on 4 acres of land and spans 20,298 square feet.

It was last sold for $ 5.5 million in 2017.

The main residence has eight bedrooms and the staff quarters and the car shed contain three bedrooms.

“It’s divided into a few different sections. Back then, people were living with their servants, so it was kind of designed for that type of lifestyle, ”Danielle Claroni, co-property agent, told Realtor.

“When you think of a castle, you think of small rooms and dungeon types of spaces, but they’re wide open rooms, with lots of light – nice big bright rooms with high ceilings. It’s really beautiful, ”adds Claroni.

In the style of an English country estate, facilities include balustraded terraces overlooking a reflective swimming pool, French gardens, a wine cellar and wide lawns. The house also has a tennis court and a five-door garage.
