The documentary Coaching Britney Spears, which explores the treatment of Spears by the public and the media, was nominated for two Emmy Awards yesterday.

Britney Spears has been under legal guardianship since 2008, with her father Jamie and other legal guardians managing her financial and personal life.

However, Spears has shown resistance to the situation in recent years, with her lawyers stating that she wants the guardianship to change and her father removed.

Here is a timeline of the guardianship to date:

Britney Spears will still be represented at Wednesday’s hearing by her longtime court-appointed lawyer Samuel Ingham III, who filed documents last week saying he resigned, as soon as she got a new lawyer , which she said she wanted at the June hearing.

The Bessemer Trust, a finance company Spears sought to replace her father last year but was instead appointed to work alongside him, also withdrew from trusteeship last week, saying she no longer wanted participate in a legal arrangement that she did not want.

She asks the court to allow her daughter to “hire her own private lawyer” or to appoint “a private lawyer from [Britney Spears]’s choosing’.

This should be one of the talking points at today’s hearing.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), along with 25 civil rights and disability rights organizations, filed an amicus brief with the Los Angeles County Superior Court in support of the right to Britney Spears to choose her own lawyer for her guardianship proceedings.

The document, filed Monday, July 12, states: “the importance of ensuring that an attorney can choose her own lawyer, where, as here, she has expressed the desire and the ability to do so.”

Spears has not posted a post to today’s audience on social media, although she has been active on Instagram lately.

After the court hearing on June 23, Spears addressed her fans in an Instagram post.

“I apologize for pretending I was doing well the past two years,” she wrote. “I did it because of my pride and I was embarrassed to share what happened to me… but honestly, who doesn’t want to capture their Instagram in a funny light !!!! Believe it or not, pretending I’m okay has really helped.

Spears has reportedly found a new attorney as part of his efforts to end the guardianship.

Mathew Rosengart is expected to appear remotely at today’s hearing.
