ENGLEWOOD, Colorado – The Broncos have reportedly added a veteran cornerback to their defensive backfield.
According to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Broncos have reached a three-year deal with cornerback Ronald Darby.
The move cannot be formalized before the start of free agency at 2 p.m. (Paris time) on Wednesday, March 17.
A former 2015 second-round pick for the Bills, Darby spent the 2020 season with the Washington football team. In his only season in Washington, he started all 16 games and recorded 16 defensive passes and 55 tackles for the NFC East champions. His 16 defended passes ranked fifth in the league in 2020, and the Washington defense ranked second against the pass.
Prior to arriving in Washington, the 5-foot-11, 193-pound cornerback spent 2017-19 with the Eagles, where he started 27 of 48 possible games in three seasons. He was a part-time starter in 2017 on the team’s Super Bowl Championship squad. Darby recorded six total interceptions and 32 defensive passes during his time with the Eagles.
Darby began his career in Buffalo, where he started 29 games in his first two seasons in the league and recorded two interceptions and 33 defensive passes. After a strong rookie campaign in 2015, he was named to the NFL All-Rookie team.
Darby would join Bryce Callahan and Michael Ojemudia among some of the best options in Denver’s cornerback body.
Darby is the first player from another team to be linked with the Broncos during the NFL’s legal tampering period, which began at 10 a.m.Montreal time on Monday.
Earlier Monday, the Broncos reached a deal with defensive lineman Shelby Harris on a new three-year contract.
