Coloradans who have never heard of Empower Retirement may soon hear that name. The company bought the naming rights for the Broncos stadium in Denver, the team confirmed on Twitter Wednesday.

Empower Field at Mile High will be the new nickname of the stadium where the Denver professional football team plays its home games. The stadium has not been sponsored by the name of the company since the bankruptcy of the Sports Authority in 2016. Last year, the Metropolitan Football Stadium District approved to rename it temporarily to the Broncos Stadium of the Mile High .

Empower is the second-largest pension provider in the country, with 9.2 million participants and $ 638 billion in assets under its control. Based in Greenwood Village, the company employs 2,700 people and has been a partner of the Broncos team since 2015, according to the franchise.

On Wednesday afternoon, the company's website had already been updated with the "Empower Field" logo.

"This announcement represents both a remarkable achievement and a tremendous opportunity for Empower, which will fundamentally change the way our brand is recognized across the country," said an internal email from Empower on Wednesday.

The news comes a few days before the team begins its 2019 season against the Oakland Raiders.
