ENGLEWOOD, Colorado – The Broncos have released cornerback AJ Bouye, the team announced Wednesday.

Bouye appeared in just seven games for the Broncos in 2020 as he battled a string of injuries. He was then suspended for the last four games of the season.

Denver acquired Bouye in March 2020 for a fourth-round pick in hopes the 2017 second-team All-Pro cornerback would return to form. Bouye has recorded just six defensive passes and 23 tackles over the year.

Bouye did not record an interception for the first time since taking on a starter role in 2014.

He suffered a shoulder injury in Week 1 against the Titans which landed him in IR until Week 7. He then suffered a concussion at the end of Week 8 which left him. barred from making the team’s Week 9 game against Atlanta. Then, at the end of the season, Bouye was suspended for six games for violating NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Bouye has served four games of his suspension and would have missed the first two games of 2021 had he stayed with the Broncos.

Veteran cornerback Bryce Callahan and 2020 third-round pick Michael Ojemudia remain under contract for Denver, among other players in the post.
