The Denver Broncos activated wide receiver Kendall Hinton on Sunday after all four quarterbacks were ruled ineligible for their game against the New Orleans Saints due to COVID-19 concerns.
The Broncos announced the ‘rise of the contagious disease training squad’ hours before kick-off after quarterback Drew Lock, replacement Brett Rypien and veteran practice Blake Bortles were considered close, high-risk contact with No.3 quarterback Jeff Driskel, who tested positive on Thursday.

“Under NFL COVID-19 2020 rules, teams are allowed to breed players from their practice squad to replace a player who is currently on the reserve / COVID-19 roster in addition to two standard elevations of the training team, ”the team said on its website.
Hinton joined the Broncos as a free agent in the offseason after playing at Wake Forest University, where he played both quarterback and wide receiver.

As the team’s signalman, Hinton completed 133 of 253 for 1,504 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also ran 1059 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The Broncos are under investigation by the NFL for violating league safety protocols, ESPN reported.
A person with first-hand knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press the four quarterbacks were not wearing their masks the entire time they were together on Wednesday, as the league’s pandemic protocols require – just one day before Driskel tested positive.

The league is attacking offenders. On Sunday, several reports said the NFL fined the Saints $ 500,000 and sentenced them to a seventh-round pick in 2021 for violating safety protocols. The New England Patriots were also fined $ 350,000.
