Brooke Shields got emotional in a heartfelt Instagram post after dropping off her 18-year-old daughter to begin her freshman year of college.

The 56-year-old “Suddenly Susan” actress took to social media to share a collection of photos that showed the big move-in day as she and her husband Chris Henchy dropped off their daughter Rowan on the campus before making the very emotional come home to New York.

“My unique and amazing little girl spreading her wings,” Shields captioned the post. “I love you so much. We are so proud of you. It was the saddest ride I have ever had to take. But my baby IS BEGINNING one of the most important adventures of her life to date… NOW ! “

Shields clearly wasn’t kidding that the drive home was difficult for her. The latest video in her article’s collection showed her filming the ride before briefly turning the camera to herself, revealing that she had clearly been crying.

However, she was all smiles in the previous post as she showed up with Rowan kissing in what appears to be her new dorm as well as some college campus snaps and videos.

Shields shares Rowan and her 15-year-old daughter, Grier, with her screenwriter husband, whom she married in 2001. The family’s big move-in day comes just months after Shields took to Instagram to score a Equally important milestone in Rowan’s life – graduating from high school. The Golden Globe-nominated actress shared a few images from the event, including seeing her daughter in a white dress and accepting her degree. She also performed a cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Photograph” on guitar at the event.

“My little girl’s graduation and she performed at the celebration,” Shields wrote at the time, hinting that she was also moved on the occasion by writing the hashtag “#waterproofmascara”.

Later that month, she spoke to People about how she is handling motherhood with her teens at a time of transition like this.

“They’re sort of at an age where I’m not so repulsive to them anymore,” she said. “They’re wearing my clothes, they want to do TikToks with me now. I’m sure it’s not going to last very long,” she explained.

“It’s just about celebrating life and that we are all coming out of this crazy time and being together,” she continued, referring to her recent leg injury. “Whenever I can pass with them, I beg to do so.”
