“There is a fiber cut in Brooklyn. We don’t have an ETR yet,” Verizon support said. on Twitter, suggesting users to turn to the FiOS app for more details, which have not yet been provided.

But FiOS users on the East Coast and Northeast are reporting internet access issues. Customers in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC and Boston have all seen their connectivity drop sharply along with the fiber cut. The company could not confirm that the two incidents were related.

Classes at Zoom School were disrupted, as were homework and digital sessions at church. Access to other services such as Google, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and the Verizon app is also currently not possible on many FiOS connections.

“PWCS is aware of the Internet connection issues with Verizon FIOS impacting students and staff,” Prince William County Public Schools said on Twitter.

“I am a teacher and cannot connect at this time because my Verizon home internet is down,” a teacher in Virginia said on Twitter. “I can’t even reach my students to tell them why I haven’t started class yet. Their final exam is tomorrow.”
