Brooklyn Nets classify Kyrie Irving “ineligible to play” in Friday preseason game

NEW YORK – The Brooklyn Nets have indicated Kyrie Irving was ineligible to play in their home preseason game on Friday, another strong indication that he failed to meet New York’s vaccination requirements.

Irving has not been with the Nets for any of their practices in New York City, where professional athletes must be vaccinated against COVID-19 to train or play.

The Nets are barred by law from revealing if he was vaccinated, but they classified him as “ineligible to play” in the injury report for their preseason game Friday against Milwaukee.

There is nothing NBA related that would cause a player to have this designation.

Unless Irving is vaccinated, he is expected to miss all 41 home games for the Nets and their two road games against the New York Knicks. The NBA has said he will not be paid for any of those games.

He trained with the Nets last week when they hosted a training camp in San Diego, but he’s not been with the team since returning home.
