McLaren Racing's CEO, Zak Brown, hopes to be able to persuade Fernando Alonso to join them for another try of the 500-mile Indianapolis after failing to qualify for this year's race.
Alonso was one of three drivers who failed to qualify for the grid of 33 cars following a series of mistakes made by the team. However, Brown wants to bring back McLaren to Indianapolis and hopes he will be joined by Alonso, whose contract with the team must be renewed following the race.
"He was disappointed like all of us," said Brown. "We have clearly dropped it.
"He's a runner, he understands that Indianapolis is unique. He drove brilliantly, he gave it all, he was great with the fans and the media and that's exactly what he did internally. He just wanted to be competitive.
"I think he wants to go back to Indianapolis. I think it would be great if we did it together. "
Brown said he had not yet had any discussions with Alonso about his return to the race with the team.
"We did not get into that," he said. "I know Fernando very well and I think one of the reasons we get along so well is that I understand how it works. I think when you get away at this point, you do not want to have a microphone. cope 24 hours later, when you do not need to make decisions now. "
