Cleveland Browns star Baker Mayfield paid tribute to a US serviceman who was killed in a terrorist attack in Afghanistan last month.
The quarterback featured an image of Maxton Soviak on his studs ahead of the Browns’ game against the Houston Texans on Sunday. Soviak, 22, was one of 13 US servicemen killed in Kabul. Soviak was an Ohio native who grew up in Berlin Heights and was a member of the Marine Corps.

Soviak enlisted on September 26, 2017 and graduated from Recruit Training Command in the Illinois Great Lakes before being assigned to 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division in September 2020, according to the US Navy. .
The Navy issued a statement, describing Soviak as “a wonderful son who loved his family, his community and was proud to serve in the United States Navy.”
“He was excited about the opportunities the Navy would offer him and planned on a career in the Navy. We are incredibly proud of his service to our country.”
