Browns chief of staff Callie Brownson will take on the game day duties for the Cleveland tight ends Sunday in Jacksonville, a first in team history for a woman.
Brownson, who was hired by Browns coach Kevin Stefanski shortly after moving to Cleveland earlier this year, will replace coach Drew Petzing. He did not travel to Florida with the team after his wife, Louisa, gave birth to the couple’s first child on Saturday.
Brownson is one of the few coaches currently working in the NFL. His normal duties extend to all of the Cleveland coaching staff.

Earlier this week, Stefanski, who broke with Minnesota in a role similar to Brownson, praised his ability to juggle an ever-changing schedule this week due to COVID-19 concerns. The team had to close their facilities three times due to players testing positive.
“It’s our job to adjust as coaches and see who is available for us and put a game plan in place to go out and win,” Stefanski said on Wednesday. “I have some very, very good coaches working with me. On a day like this, when you’re trying to set the schedule and trying to add some extra meetings, Callie sets it all up for us. She’s the star of the day and able to put that together.
“This is where I am fortunate to have some really good coaches around me.”
Brownson made history earlier this season when the Cleveland game in Washington featured a coach for both teams and an official.
Brownson was a full-time coaching intern with Buffalo last season. She also worked as a scouting intern with the New York Jets before joining the Dartmouth coaching staff in 2018.
